Saka, Odegaard, Havertz not in Arsenal training

Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard were not seen in Arsenal open training ahead of their Champions League opener against Athletic Club.

Odegaard came off with another injured shoulder in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest. It is the second shoulder injury the Arsenal captain has suffered this season.

Saka, meanwhile, has been missing since injuring his left hamstring in the 5-0 win over Leeds. Kai Havertz was also not training after his minor knee procedure in the opening week of the season.

There was a boost for Arsenal as William Saliba was seen training with the team. The France defender limped out of the 1-0 win over Liverpool and missed the international break with his country.

Saliba returned to training on Friday last week but missed the Nottingham Forest game as Mikel Arteta revealed he needed a few more days to recover from the ankle blow.

Another boost for Arsenal was Christian Norgaard being available for training. The midfielder is yet to make his competitive debut for the Gunners after being sidelined with injury.

The game in Bilbao on Tuesday afternoon is part of an important week for Arsenal, with the Gunners also facing Manchester City on Sunday
